The General Meeting of Etche Divisional Council Of Traditional Rulers And Chiefs on Friday at Okehi, the headquarters of Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, has in attendance of all the traditional rulers and chiefs in Etche land.
The Etche monarch, His Eminence, Ochie Emmanuel Opurum, Onye-Ishi-Etche (Ochie Of Etche Land) has emphasized the need to encourage inter-marital engagements amongst Etche sons and daughters to promote the sustainance of Etche cultural values and tradition. This statement was made at Okehi while hosting the Etche Traditional Council meeting at Okehi Etche on Friday.
In the issue of security, the council of Etche Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, condemned the killing in of innocent Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen and advised the president to act fast to end the menace. They also condemn the rearing of cattle in any parts of Etche land and placed 7 years ban on any Etche sons to live outside Etche without communication with Etche People.
In Community Development, the Council commended Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for the construction of internal roads in Etche land and also appealed for the dualization of Igwuruta Etche road to Igbodo community to attract more development in Etche land.
They also supported the ban government placed on cultist and warned the youths to desist from initiating and enrolling other youths into cultism.
The traditional rulers also called for maximum use of government schools in all communities in Etche.
The Onye-Ishi Etche therefore appealed to the government to pursue education with vigour by allocating more funds to the ministry to enable it rehabilitate some old secondary school buildings such as Etche Girls Secondary Umuola, Government Secondary School Ndashi Etche, Government Secondary School Okehi and others, so as to bring education to the doorstep of the communities.
