The soot menace: Why the blame trade will not solve the problem.

It is often said that the job of politicians is to politic, both in good and in bad times. However, it is the duty of politicians to solve problems that affect the lives of the people and reassure the people that the mandates given to the politicians were not mistakes.

The opposite seems to be the case in Rivers State as politicians leave the issues that are of utmost importance and dwell on names calling and other sundry insults.

The politicization of the soot menace in Rivers State is, to say the least, sad. The Rivers State Governor has on several occasions, accused the Federal government of deliberately not doing enough to curtail the activities of security operatives who burn down illegal refineries in the creeks.

The All Progressives Congress Rivers State chapter, siding the federal government, has come out to accuse the state government of sponsoring bunkering activities in the creeks and on that note, maintains that the activities of the security agencies are in line with their mandate of protecting the country from economic sabotage even when they (security agents) have become enablers of same by destroying these recovered resources from those who have been sabotaging them.

Theportcitynews believe that the blame games employed by the ruling party and the opposition, both at the state and federal level have constantly deflected attention from the crust of the matter, which is, that there is a health hazard flying in the air and little to nothing has been done to curtail it.

Theportcitynews, having critically followed events since the soot issue grabbed the attention of actors concerned, have seen no patriotic approach towards solving the problem. There has been no synergy in terms of roundtable discussions by leaders of the state irrespective of party affiliation where issues will be put into perspective, one at a time and trashed.

What residents of the state is gifted instead, are endless throwing of tantrums while the problem lingers.

Residents of Rivers State deserve to breathe clean air and the residents cannot vote politicians into power, turn around to beg same politicians to sit up and do the job which they have been voted to do.

The politicians should shed every toga of political affiliation, join hand together and solve the problem for the benefit of everyone.

As they campaign for votes come 2019, if all those who are to vote them are plagued by avoidable health problems, who would vote for them?
Politicians, be warned!
