Petroleum Tanker drivers in the state have threatened to withdraw their services from the four depots in Abonnema Wharf for lack of space to park their trucks.
Chairman Petroleum Tanker Drivers, Sigmond Unit and zonal disciplinary committee chairman, comrade Steve Aliba, who disclosed this to Theportcitynews.com Reporter, Tina Stephen, at the SIGMOND office Abonnema wharf, PortHarcourt, appealed to the state government to urgently create a parking space for the trucks .
He noted that petroleum tanker drivers Abonnema wharf has been faced with the challenge of no motor park for a long time, adding that the space allocated to them at Njamaze in Diobu area is not enough.
“We are pleading with the state government to provide a parking space for us, if we don’t have a place to park our trucks, the four depots in Abonema wharf may decide to shut down for us to look for a place. We can’t be causing problem for road users.
“The government should help us, we are helping the nation, if we should shut down this four depots, it will have a serious impact on Rivers state even the country. Government should please listen to us and give us a place to park so we won’t be having challenges of trucks parking along the express roads”
Speaking on the recklessness of truck drivers parking on major roads in Portharcourt city, Comrade Aliba said a task force has
been instituted to checkmate and discipline tanker drivers who continue to park their trucks on the road most especially, Azikiwe express road.
“We have instructed tanker drivers not to park their trucks on the express. The taskforce set up will work till 11pm everyday to ensure that no truck is wrongly parked. Any truck driver that disobeyed the rules, the taskforce will take down the truck registration number for disciplinary actions to be meted to such offender”
