Ojukwu’s bunker to become tourist centre

Anambra State government has revealed plans to resuscitate and refurbish the famous Ojukwu bunker for tourism purposes.

The bunker provided sanctuary to the late secessionist, Dim Chukuwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, during the Biafran war.

One of such bunkers is at Amorka, Ihiala Local Government Area, as well as in Umuahia, Abia State.

The Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, James Eze, while addressing reporters on Wednesday, said that major tourist centres, Ogbunike Cave in Oyi and the Ogbaukwu Caves and Waterfalls in Owerre Ezukala, Orumba South Local Government Area, were also approved for refurbishment.

“The Willie Obiano administration would, in its first 100 days, take steps to reposition tourism to enable the State mine the potentials therein.

“These tourist centres will receive immediate attention with the construction of access roads to them,” he said.

The aide added that the State Governor has directed that the Light-up Anambra Campaign be taken to the tourist sites to illuminate roads and footpaths leading to the caves and bunker.
