Ministry of Environment starts sensitization to stop street trading in Port Harcourt

John Diidi

Officials of the Rivers State ministry of environment led by the commissioner, Prof Roseline Konya, has started a sensitization exercise aimed at halting and eradicating street trading in the state.

Prof Konya led officials of the state ministry to Garrison, waterlines, Rumuola, artillery junction, Bishop Okoye and Diobu areas of Port Harcourt, for the program.

The commissioner said that the sensitization will serve as the last warning, before the arrest and prosecution of street traders in the state.

“You go to talk them today and tomorrow, they still return. So we told them that the time will come and we would not be sensitizing them anymore. We may have to use force, and so they have to respect themselves and leave.

“We also informed those who were selling on the road, that that will be the last time. That they should move away, and never to return to those places, especially the bus stops” he warned.
