A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers East senatorial district and a senatorial hopeful, Chief. Allwell Onyesoh, has said that the Etche ethnic nationality will no longer occupy second fiddle positions in Rivers State political space.
Speaking on the sidelines of a traditional wedding ceremony of the Royal Majesty of Etche ethnic nationality, Eze E. N. B. Opurum (Ochie of Etche), Chief Onyesoh, sounded it as an advice to all present, including the member representing Etche Constituency 1 at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Nnanna Opurum (whose sister was given out to marriage), that the Etche nation has suffered political setbacks despite its contributions and role in the creation of Rivers State.
He further lamented the fact that Etche people have been marginalized too much and as such, the people of Etche ethnic nationality will no longer play the piper or accept anything short of positions she has not occupied before.
Frowning at the ugly incidence of not been given the opportunity to produce a Senator, Chief Onyesoh, said that he is in the race to prove a point that Etches have qualified candidates that can do the job when given the opportunity.
He also used the medium to preach the gospel of ‘politics without bitterness’ stressing that every Etche man should be a brother to one another and as such, people should not allow political parties to divide them.
In a swift reaction, Hon. Nnanna Opurum, maintained that although he did not invite Chief Onyesoh, who thought it wise to celebrate with them, he has also been a crusader for Etche agenda.
He pointed out that Etche is due and qualified to occupy so many positions in the state, but the challenge of gossip, slander, and betrayal amongst some Etche youths have hindered the growth and development of Etche.
