Dutch Eerste Divisie club MVV Maastricht are in talks with Arsenal over a loan deal for Nigeria U20 captain Kelechi Nwakali, according to his brother and representative Allwell Nwakali.
Porto had explored the possibility of signing the attacking midfielder on a permanent basis in the January transfer window but have not had fruitful discussions with the Gunners.
Arsenal are set to recall Nwakali from VVV Venlo as they are unhappy over his lack of first-team opportunities, with only three starts to his name in the Eredivisie since he completed his move.
”MVV Maastricht want Kelechi, and I think Arsenal want that as well as they have initial understanding,” said Allwell Nwakali to allnigeriasoccer.com.
”Arsenal want him to join MVV so that he can playing day in, day out and this will help him build his game against the summer.”
The 19-year-old Nwakali was conspicuously missing from VVV Venlo’s match day squad against ADO Den Haag this past weekend, and was also not listed for the friendlies against Alemannia Aachen and Venray.
He spent last season on loan at MVV, and scored 3 goals in 34 matches.
