Governor Fubara to Deliver First General Hospital in Wike’s LGA, Promises World-Class Neuro-Psychiatric Facility

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has taken a significant step toward improving healthcare in the state, setting aside political differences to deliver the first General Hospital in Obio/Akpor, the local government area of his political rival, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The project is set to be completed within the next eight months.

Governor Fubara, who has prioritized healthcare as a key focus of his administration, highlighted the absence of a General Hospital in Obio/Akpor and emphasized the importance of making such facilities available to the people. “We are building a standard General Hospital for residents of Obio/Akpor LGA, ensuring they can access essential health services,” Fubara said.

The Governor also announced plans for a state-of-the-art Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital to replace the outdated facility, aiming to address mental health challenges more effectively.

Accompanied by Senator John Azuta Mbata, Chairman of Monier Construction Company, and Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Barrister Elloka Tasie-Amadi, Governor Fubara expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far. “I am impressed with what is happening here. It’s not up to one month since this project was awarded, and you can already see the extent of work done. I’m confident we will deliver this project within the next eight months,” he remarked.

Governor Fubara recalled his visit a few months ago, during which he noticed that the old Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital was no longer up to standard. This prompted his decision to upgrade the facility to meet current mental health needs. “The new facility will be world-class, designed to handle neurotic and psychotic issues affecting our society today,” he stated.

He assured the public that his administration remains committed to delivering top-notch healthcare services, reflecting the “Rivers First” agenda. “No investment in critical infrastructure is too much when it comes to the health and well-being of our people,” Governor Fubara added.

During the inspection, a large crowd of Rumuigbo Community residents—children, young adults, and the elderly—gathered at the site, singing, dancing, and celebrating the Governor’s initiatives for the community and the state.
