The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has tasked troops of the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy to increase crude oil production to 2.2 million barrels from 1.35 million barrels per day (bpd) before the end of December 2024.

It is worth noting that during the inauguration of members of the Defence Joint Monitoring Team at the 6 Division, Nigerian Army Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Musa emphasized the importance of securing oil-producing areas and facilities to achieve the target.

“We’ll do well to encourage them not to support anyone out there that wants to sabotage these efforts. We are going to be very decisive about it, and anyone caught would be severely prosecuted,” Musa warned.

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, also called for increased synergy among security operatives and stakeholders to sustain the fight against oil theft. He assured the CDS of the state government’s collaboration with the federal government to curb illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism.

Fubara noted that saboteurs aim to disrupt governance and create disaffection in the business climate, but he remains determined to deliver good governance and improve the lives of Rivers people.

It bears mentioning that the CDS also inaugurated the Defence Joint Intelligence Infusion Centre to harmonize intelligence agencies and gather information to ensure peace. He appreciated Governor Fubara’s leadership style, which has created an enabling environment for peace and security in Rivers State.

The Chairman of the Team, Major General JAL Jimoh, assured that his team would leave no stone unturned in engendering improved daily production of crude and surpassing the benchmark.

The Port City news earlier reported that the Rivers State Government has pledged to donate six gunboats to the armed forces to combat illegal bunkering and sea piracy in the state. It is worth noting that Governor Fubara restated his resolve to ensure that everything goes well by providing the needed state government support that will contribute to increasing crude oil production.
