Rivers State Governor To Swear In Eight New Judges

Governor Siminalayi Fubara will swear in eight judges recently recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC) on Friday, September 20, 2024, in a move aimed at strengthening the judiciary in the state.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 12 noon at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The newly appointed judges include:

  1. Justice Frank Onviri
  2. Victor Chinedum Ugoji
  3. Godswill Vidal-Obomanu
  4. Rota Chituru-Oguguo
  5. Alatuwo Elkanah-Fubara
  6. Barivima Sylvester Kokpan
  7. Lesi Wofa-Adedipe
  8. Ibietelela Innocent Madighi Obu

Chief Registrar David Ihua-Maduenyi, in a statement, urged the nominated judges to arrive by 11:30 am to ensure a seamless and smooth ceremony.

It is worth noting that the NJC’s recommendation and subsequent appointment of these judges are expected to enhance the state’s judicial capacity and facilitate timely dispensation of justice.

Notably, Governor Fubara’s administration has prioritized judicial reform and capacity building, aiming to improve the overall effectiveness of the justice system in Rivers State.

It bears mentioning that the swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to be attended by top state officials, judicial stakeholders, and representatives from the NJC.
