Former IYC chairman of Kalabari Se-ikpangi, Prince Sobrasua Odum has given the reason some youths occupied the three Kalabari LG councils of Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru, and Degema respectively.
It could be recalled that scores of youths have been sighted at the secretariats of the three LGAs since Monday, June 17 till date as they continue to demand for Rowland Sekibo, Michael Williams, and Onengiye-Ofori George whose tenures as chairmen had elapsed to vacate office immediately.
Speaking with our correspondent, Comrade Sobrasua said the youths decided to tarry at the entrance gates of the three council secretariats in order to prevent the chairmen and their cronies from looting the properties that belong to the LGAs.
His words: “We are Ijaw people and are here to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order. The tenure of the local government chairmen has elapsed and we don’t want them to come and loot the councils.
“Governor Sim Fubara is an Ijaw man and this is our turn. So, why can’t the Kalabari LG chairmen give their support to Sim Fubara?
“We supported Nyesom Wike for eight years, when he was a governor without rancor, nor problem but the so-called Kalabari LG chairmen came and wanted to betray the Kalabari people in governor Fubara’s regime and the youths have risen up to say no that enough is enough. and that is why we are here.
“We are not here for any personal hatred but we are here for justice. The court has said that there is no elongation of council chairmen’s tenure. “We will remain here at the secretariats until the new appointees of the governor take over the council secretariats.”
