The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed AIG Yetunde Longe as the first female secretary of the Nigerian Police Force to promote gender inclusivity and equality within the force, according to a statement from Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja.
AIG Longe, who started as a Cadet ASP on March 3, 1990, has a wealth of experience. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Toxicology, which helps her in crime management and investigation. She has also completed advanced courses, including the Advanced Detective Course and Intermediate Command Course at the Police Staff College in Jos, and the Protection of Civilians course in Italy. Her career includes roles such as Administrative Officer, Crime Officer, Commandant in Lagos, and Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Corporate Investment at the NPF Cooperative.
She has also served as Area Commander in Lagos, Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi and Lagos States, and DCP Admin at Zone 2, Lagos. Before her new role, she was Commissioner of Police for the Port Authority Police, Eastern Command, Port Harcourt, and Assistant Inspector General of Police in the Department of Training and Development at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
IGP Egbetokun emphasized that promoting gender equality and empowering female officers to reach leadership positions is a key goal of his administration. He assured that the force will continue to prioritize merit and capability for advancement, regardless of gender.
