Gunshots Erupt as Rivers Police Arrest Suspects, Recover Stolen Lexus Vehicle

Gunshots rent the air on Wednesday as officers of the Rivers State Police Command arrested several suspects at a car mechanic workshop on School Road Street, Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt.

The suspects were linked to a stolen Lexus vehicle, reportedly snatched at gunpoint in Delta State and brought to Rivers State.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when police officers, conducting a routine sweep of blackout spots in the area, encountered a confrontation with vigilante personnel on Azikiwe Street. This led to gunfire, causing residents to flee in panic.

An hour later, police officers, accompanied by a towing van, returned to the scene to recover the stolen Lexus. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Azikiwe Police Division was also present during the operation, overseeing the arrest.

As of the time of this report, calm has been restored in the area, with residents going about their normal activities. The Rivers State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
