Wizkid Slams Davido Over Talent

The lingering feud between Afrobeats superstars Wizkid and Davido has reignited, sparking a heated exchange on social media. This latest escalation marks the continuation of a longstanding rivalry between the two music icons.

The tension resumed just months after their previous clash on X (formerly Twitter) in May. During that incident, Wizkid took aim at Davido and Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy, ridiculing the latter as merely an “influencer.” Wizkid also shared a demeaning video of Davido, depicting him on his knees, begging for new music.

Wizkid’s recent comments have now rekindled the animosity, prompting a fresh wave of verbal sparring between the two camps. Fans and onlookers are witnessing another round of public jabs and insults, fueling the ongoing debate about supremacy in the Nigerian music industry.

This protracted rivalry has captivated the attention of Afrobeats enthusiasts worldwide, with many divided in their allegiance to either Wizkid’s Starboy faction or Davido’s 30BG movement. As the drama unfolds, social media platforms remain abuzz with speculation and analysis.

The implications of this renewed feud extend beyond personal pride, potentially influencing collaborations, industry politics, and the broader musical landscape. Will this legendary rivalry propel creative innovation or perpetuate division within the Afrobeats community? Only time will tell.

The long-simmering tension between Wizkid and Davido resurfaced on Tuesday, sparked by the teaser of Davido’s first 2024 single. Coincidentally, Wizkid had slated the release of his highly anticipated “Morayo” album’s lead track for the same day, setting the stage for a perceived clash.

Davido’s associate, Black Tycoone, escalated the situation with a provocative tweet: “Tell your Daddy to drop an album already.” This apparent jab at Wizkid’s delayed album release drew a swift response from the Grammy-winning singer.

Wizkid took to X, firing subtle shots at Davido’s camp: “P***y boys dropping mid again… Una don tire! Make una go rest small!” Though he avoided directly naming Davido, fans swiftly decoded the message as a thinly veiled attack on the “Fem” crooner.

This exchange reignited the heated rivalry, with fans from both camps eagerly joining the fray. The subtle digs and indirect insults underscore the lingering animosity between Wizkid and Davido, fueling speculation about the motivations behind their actions.

Is this a calculated marketing move to generate buzz or a genuine expression of disdain? The timing of Davido’s single release and Wizkid’s album drop has raised questions about strategic competition and potential chart battles.

As the drama unfolds, Afrobeats enthusiasts are witnessing a clash of egos, artistic pride, and commercial interests. Will this rivalry propel innovative music or devolve into petty squabbles? The world watches as these two Nigerian music titans engage in a war of words and rhythms.

In defense of Davido, a fan hit back at Wizkid, accusing him of chasing clout by roping Davido into his online drama. “So if you no beef @davido, your song won’t sell?” the user tweeted.

Wizkid wasted no time in firing back, stating, “I don’t beef wack niggas! We all know he’s wack! No talent!”

Refusing to let the matter die, Wizkid continued his tirade, dismissing Davido’s entire discography as “trash” and bragging about his own musical prowess. “80 trash! We got 80 albums for any song y’all drop! P***y boys!” he added.

Despite Wizkid’s relentless jabs, Davido has remained silent.

Speculation is rife that the latest tension may have been sparked by Davido’s recent performance at Tony Elumelu’s UBA anniversary in the United States. While Davido entertained the guests and posed for pictures with the billionaire businessman, Wizkid, who is a UBA brand ambassador, was conspicuously absent from the event.

The back-and-forth has generated several reactions on social media, with fans and celebrities weighing in on the feud. While some have criticized Wizkid for reigniting the rivalry, others are keen to see if Davido will finally respond.

A user with the handle @Rswagger03 speculated that Wizkid’s antics were merely a promotional tactic for his upcoming album. “Just beg us to promote your songs… beefing with elemi9+ won’t help your dead career or better still… ask Tems for help again,” he tweeted.

Another fan, @Amaruskills, dismissed Wizkid’s comments, suggesting the artiste was merely trying to remain relevant. “Lol, fame don dey fade, he don start to dey talk small small make dem no forget am,” the tweet read.

This question remains on the mind of Nigerians, “is this a Publicity Stunt?”
