Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a 24-year-old man named Otamiri Prince, in connection with the alleged kidnapping and rape of a young woman he met online.
According to a statement by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Agabe Kaborlo Blessing on Sunday 12 April 2026, the victim Miss Thomas Alice, also 24, of Eliozu in Port Harcourt, reported the incident to the police on April 11, 2026 where she alleged that on January 3, 2026, she was lured by the suspect, whom she had contacted via the internet, to Igwuruta.
According to Miss Alice, the accomplices allegedly took her to a bush in Ulakwo, Etche Local Government Area, where she was assaulted, raped, and robbed of her valuables before being released.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, detectives from the Command launched an intensive investigation, deploying advanced technology-driven strategies initiated by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu which resulted to the arrest of Otamiri Prince, who reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crime.
According to the statement, Items recovered from the suspect include an iPhone, a wig believed to belong to the victim, and other valuables.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Commissioner, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has issued a strong advisory to ladies and job seekers who engage in online interactions.
He urged them to exercise extreme caution when dealing with people met on the internet.
“Avoid meeting strangers in isolated or unfamiliar locations. Always inform trusted family members or friends about your movements. Verify identities before any physical meeting, choose safe and public places, and remain vigilant at all times,” the CP warned.
