EFCC Debunks Fake Wanted Poster Circulating Against Comedian Sabinus

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially dismissed as fake a viral wanted poster targeting popular Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, widely known as Sabinus.

In a statement issued on Thursday 9 March 2026, via its verified social media accounts, the anti-graft agency described the document as misleading and clearly fabricated.

EFCC stamped the circulating poster with “FAKE NEWS” and issued a direct warning to those responsible:

“Clout chaser, stop this now!”

The counterfeit poster, which gained rapid traction online, closely imitated the official format and design used by the EFCC.

It falsely claimed that the 43-year-old comedian was wanted for obtaining money by false pretence and listed a purported address at 13/14 Ligali Ayorinde Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

Despite its professional appearance, the commission confirmed the document was entirely doctored and had no authenticity.

Sabinus, celebrated for his widely acclaimed comedy skits and large following both in Nigeria and across the diaspora, is yet to issue any public statement regarding the incident.

The EFCC has used the opportunity to reiterate its longstanding warning to the public against the spread of fake news.

The agency urged Nigerians to always cross-check information with its official communication channels before sharing or reacting to such content.

As of the time of this report, the commission has not disclosed whether it has identified the individuals behind the fake poster.
