Afrofusion star Burna Boy reportedly clashed with popular disc jockey DJ Tunez, leading to a dramatic reaction from the country’s DJ community.
The incident, which allegedly occurred during a nightlife gathering in Lagos, with the Nigerian DJ Association taking the extraordinary step of ordering DJs nationwide to stop playing Burna Boy’s songs temporarily.
Reports say the confrontation happened at “Obi’s House,” a well-known weekly Afrobeats party in Lagos where both Burna Boy and DJ Tunez were present.
The two entertainment figures reportedly escalated into a heated argument before turning into a physical confrontation.
Eyewitness accounts circulating online claim that members of Burna Boy’s team allegedly became involved during the altercation before bystanders stepped in to calm the situation.
While the precise trigger for the argument has not been confirmed, speculation online suggests it may be tied to long-standing rivalries within the Afrobeats scene.
Some observers have also linked the tension to the frequent fan rivalry between Burna Boy and superstar Wizkid, with DJ Tunez being a long-time collaborator and official DJ for Wizkid’s Starboy brand.
Following the incident, the Nigerian DJ Association announced a temporary boycott of Burna Boy’s music across its network of DJs both in Nigeria and abroad.
The association said the decision was taken in solidarity with DJ Tunez while an investigation into the incident continues.
In its statement, the association instructed DJs to remove Burna Boy’s songs from their playlists until further notice, effectively banning the Grammy winner’s catalogue from clubs, parties and events run by its members.
The group also emphasized its commitment to protecting DJs within the industry and maintaining professionalism in Nigeria’s nightlife and entertainment spaces.
Burna Boy remains one of Africa’s most globally recognized music stars, with a catalogue of club-dominating hits.
However, the situation shows the delicate relationship between artists and DJs, whose support often determines how frequently songs dominate nightlife and party playlists.
