Controversial Nigerian relationship therapist and influencer Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has spoken out following the backlash that trailed her public request for financial assistance to undergo breast cancer treatment.
The social media personality recently revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and had appealed to the public for support to fund a planned surgery.
Her announcement, however, quickly created believe and doubt online, with some people questioning the timing of her request and suggesting that the situation might have been exaggerated.
Addressing the controversy during an Instagram Live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, Blessing CEO explained that her decision to ask for financial help early was simply a way of preparing for the medical expenses ahead, even though the full cost of the procedure had not yet been determined.
She noted that the surgery she initially planned to undergo had been postponed due to the live session, adding that the treatment process involves more than just the operation.
According to her, additional tests and recovery procedures will also contribute to the total cost, which influenced her decision to seek assistance ahead of time.
“I was diagnosed with cancer in January 2026. After the diagnosis, I began preparing for a mastectomy to determine how far the tumour has spread.
The surgery was initially scheduled for last week but was postponed because of this live session with Daddy Freeze,” she said.
“I asked for financial assistance because I need funds for the surgery, even though I don’t yet know the exact cost.
“I was unclear about the full process until now. After the mastectomy, further tests are needed to ensure the cancer has not spread.
“Some people also said recovery can be very difficult, so asking for support early is my way of preparing, rather than reaching out during a more vulnerable moment.”
This comes in the time of an ongoing conversation on social media, where everyone’s debating the ethics of public fundraising among celebrities and influencers, especially when personal health matters are involved.
Only a few fans have rallied around her with messages of support, others remain skeptical, and accuse her of spreading a rumor to raise funds.
