Atletico criticises NFF for overusing Lookman during Super Eagles duty

The Spanish La Liga outlet, Atletico Madrid has reportedly raised concerns regarding the management of Ademola Lookman by the Nigeria Football Federation following his participation in recent international friendlies.

‎The recent report claimed that the Spanish club is reportedly unhappy with Lookman’s significant playing time during Nigeria’s matches against Jordan and Iran, where the forward played a total of 180 minutes across both games.

‎The Nigerian international playmaker, Ademola Lookman, who transferred to the Rojiblancos from Atalanta during the winter transfer window, played a key role for the Super Eagles.

‎He participated for 90 minutes in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Iran before being replaced by Frank Onyeka, and he also played the full match in the 2-2 draw against Jordan in Antalya, Turkey.

‎As per reports from the Spanish publication AS, Atletico Madrid considers the decision to utilize the forward for the entire duration of both friendlies as excessive, especially given the non-competitive nature of these matches.

‎The Nigeria international has been in remarkable form since his arrival in Spain, contributing five goals and four assists in 14 appearances across La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League.

‎Atletico Madrid is thought to be eager to manage his workload carefully as the season approaches a critical stage, with the club worried that the substantial minutes played on international duty could lead to fatigue and an increased risk of injury, potentially impacting their pursuit of trophies on several fronts.
