TKAM Star Lashes AMVCA Over ‘Unfair’ Nomination

Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai, popularly known as Lily Afe, has reacted strongly after the release of the nomination list for the upcoming Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The actress expressed disappointment over her omission from the Best Supporting Actress category despite her performance as Idia in the series To Kill a Monkey, produced by acclaimed filmmaker Kemi Adetiba.

Following the announcement of the nominees, Afegbai took to social media to air her frustration, suggesting that her role in the production generated significant attention and deserved recognition.

Her portrayal of Idia in the drama series drew conversations among viewers and fans of the project, with many praising the intensity and depth she brought to the character.

However, the actress believes the impact of the role was overlooked in the final nomination list released by the organisers of the awards.

Despite her disappointment, Afegbai insisted that she does not depend on award nominations to validate her work or career in the film industry.

“I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason.

” I don’t need a nomination for validation. The truth is clear nobody trended like IDIA from TKAM last year. You guys can eat your award. Amvca SMH,” she wrote.

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, launched in 2013 by Multichoice Africa, has grown to become one of the most prestigious platforms celebrating African film and television.

It recognises outstanding achievements across the continent in categories ranging from acting and directing to production and technical expertise.

Over the years, the awards have been instrumental in highlighting emerging talents and bringing African storytelling to a global audience, making nominations highly anticipated and widely discussed.
