NPA Set to Boost Nigeria’s Cargo Traffic

Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Abubakar Dantsoho, says the Authority has intensified efforts to revive cargo movement by rehabilitating key Eastern ports, including Onne, Warri, and Calabar, as part of a broader strategy to enhance capacity and efficiency.

Mr. Dantsoho, who made this known at the 37th Enugu International Trade Fair, said the initiative goes beyond infrastructure renewal, noting that the NPA is also providing technical support to deep-seaport promoters to attract vessel traffic to the Eastern corridor sustainably.

He outlined a comprehensive reform agenda focused on boosting non-oil exports through modernised port infrastructure, streamlined export procedures, and full automation of operations.

According to Mr. Dantsoho, Central to the reforms is the establishment of Export Process Terminals (EPTs), designed as one-stop hubs for cargo consolidation, documentation, packaging, certification, and shipment. He explained that he aimed at eliminating delays and inefficiencies that previously weakened Nigeria’s export competitiveness.

He noted that the EPTs will be integrated with Domestic Export Warehouses and supported by the National Single Window system to reduce human interference, curb corruption, and improve ease of doing business. He added that the move is to position local producers and SMEs for greater access to global markets.
