The commemoration of the 2026 National Police Day is on top gear as the Bayelsa State Police Command announced a week-long series of activities to mark the Day which is aimed at strengthening community engagement and public safety across the state.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the Command said the event, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu , will be held from March 30 to April 7, 2026, under the theme “Community Partnership: Building Trust.” DSP Mohammed, stated that the celebration is designed to enhance police-public relations through community-based programmes and stakeholder engagements.
According to the schedule released by the Command, activities will commence on Monday, March 30, with a community outreach programme featuring a sanitation exercise at the Swali Ultra-Modern Market, Yenagoa, followed by free medical services for members of the public, including police families and affiliates.
The day will also include a town hall meeting at the Police Officers’ Mess in Yenagoa, where traditional rulers, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other stakeholders will deliberate on issues such as electoral violence, ballot snatching, and related offences.
On Tuesday, March 31, a walkathon will take off from the State Police Headquarters in Yenagoa as part of efforts to promote physical fitness and community solidarity.
The programme will continue on Wednesday, April 1, with a sensitization campaign at Ekeki Park, targeting drivers and key stakeholders on safe driving practices, traffic regulations, and the dangers of electoral violence.
On Thursday, April 2, the Command will present welfare cheques to families of deceased police personnel at the State Command Headquarters as part of its support initiatives.
The celebration will culminate in a grand finale on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the Eagle Square, Abuja, bringing together police formations and stakeholders from across the country.
The Command called on residents, community leaders, and partner organizations to actively participate in the events, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in building trust, fostering cooperation, and ensuring sustainable peace in Bayelsa State.
