Doma United FC from Gombe has achieved promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), becoming the first club this season to confirm their return to the top tier from the Nigeria National League (NNL).
This promotion signifies a remarkable turnaround for the club, which faced relegation two seasons ago and has since mounted a resolute campaign to reclaim its elite status.
Competing in Conference C, Doma United topped the group with 26 points accrued from 13 matches.
Their success was supported by a disciplined defensive strategy, allowing only eight goals while scoring 17 throughout the campaign.
The team’s robust home performance was vital, as they achieved seven victories on their home turf.
On away matches, they secured one win and two draws, with three losses that ultimately did not hinder their promotion efforts.
This marks Doma United’s second tenure in the NPFL and signifies a rapid recovery from their relegation in the 2023/24 season.
Their return stands in contrast to that of city rivals Gombe United, who were also relegated in the same season but have yet to achieve a comeback.
In other NNL promotion contests, Ranchers Bees secured a return to the top division after finishing first in Conference D with 20 points from 11 matches.
Beyond Limits emerged as leaders in Conference A with 25 points, while Akwa United led Conference B with 28 points.
Meanwhile, Sporting Supreme’s withdrawal from the league has introduced an unexpected twist to the season’s competition.
