Police Investigate Killing of Popular Port Harcourt Event Planner

The Rivers State Police Command has begun an investigation into the killing of a Port Harcourt-based event planner Mina Opurabo also known as Special B Ushers, who was shot by suspected gunmen along the Odili Road axis of the city.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, the incident was reported to the police at the Abuloma Police Division by Miss Divine Anyanwu, a resident of No. 9 Aliobi Drive, Elimgbu, Port Harcourt.

Anyanwu told the police that on March 19, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., she and her friend, identified as Special Bensington, boarded a Bolt ride from a hotel located on Emmanuel Road, off Odili Road, in Port Harcourt.

While they were travelling through the Total Gospel area along the same route, the vehicle was reportedly attacked by unknown armed men riding a tricycle.

The attackers were suspected to have followed the victims from the hotel before launching the assault.

Police said the gunmen opened fire during the attack, leaving Special Bensington with multiple gunshot wounds.

The injured victim was immediately rushed to BMH Hospital in Port Harcourt for medical attention, but she later died from the injuries while receiving treatment on March 21, 2026.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Abuloma Division and his team visited both the scene of the shooting and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations.

The body of the deceased has been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

Police authorities said the case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further forensic investigation, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The police command condemned the killing and assured residents that those behind the crime would be brought to justice.

Members of the public with useful information that could assist the investigation have been urged to contact the police through the Complaint Response Unit or report to the nearest police station.

The command also assured residents that updates would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
