‎Bad news for Super Eagles as Osimhen suffers a fractured arm

‎By Happiness Etukudo

‎Victor Osimhen has encountered a significant injury setback after fracturing his arm during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool FC.

‎This news represents a substantial blow for both the club and the Nigeria national football team, as the striker is now expected to spend time on the sidelines.

‎Injury complicates Champions League exit

‎Galatasaray’s aspirations of advancing to the quarter-finals were thwarted following a heavy loss at Anfield, where Liverpool overturned a first-leg deficit to achieve a 4-1 aggregate victory.

‎Osimhen had been instrumental in the first leg, providing an assist for Mario Lemina’s winning goal in Turkey.

‎However, the second leg proved to be significantly more challenging, as Liverpool controlled the match. The situation deteriorated for Galatasaray when Osimhen had to leave the field shortly after half-time due to an injury sustained in the first half.

‎The club later confirmed that both Osimhen and teammate Noa Lang had to be substituted due to injuries, further adding to the disappointment of their European exit.

‎Fracture confirmed with recovery timeline uncertain

‎In an official announcement, Galatasaray disclosed that Osimhen had initially continued to play despite receiving a blow to his arm but was substituted at halftime due to concerns regarding a potential fracture.

‎Medical assessments conducted post-match confirmed the worst fears, with the Nigerian forward diagnosed with a fracture in his right forearm. The injury has been stabilized with a cast, while a decision regarding the necessity of surgery is anticipated in the upcoming days.

‎Lang also sustained a serious injury, incurring a deep cut to his thumb that will necessitate surgery in Liverpool.

‎For Osimhen, the timing could not be more unfortunate. Already slated to miss Nigeria’s March friendlies, this injury now casts serious doubts on his availability for forthcoming international matches, posing a significant setback to the Super Eagles’ plans.
