NSCDC Deploys Over 53,000 Personnel Ahead of Eid-el-Fitr

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it will deploy more than 53,500 personnel nationwide to help keep the Eid-el-Fitr celebration peaceful and trouble-free.

Commandant General Abubakar Audi ordered the nationwide deployment, which will include both tactical teams and intelligence units stationed strategically throughout all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a statement on Wednesday, NSCDC spokesman Babawale Afolabi said Audi explained that the deployment aims to boost security across the country, respond to new threats, and protect important national assets during the holiday.

“As Eid-el-Fitr approaches, the NSCDC Commandant General, Abubakar Audi, has directed the deployment of over 53,500 personnel, including tactical and intelligence squads, across the country to bolster security and ensure a peaceful celebration,” the statement said.

The deployment will cover all states and the FCT, as part of proactive efforts to address security challenges and safeguard vital assets.

Audi has also instructed all College Provosts, Zonal Commanders, and State Commandants to maintain effective security coverage within their respective areas.

Security has been stepped up at known hotspots such as shopping centres, Eid prayer grounds, mosques, churches, motor parks, and recreational venues. Both uniformed and undercover officers have been assigned to these locations to prevent any criminal activity.

“Key public spaces like shopping malls, places of worship, transport hubs, and recreation centres will be closely monitored by both visible and covert operatives to deter crime,” Audi stated.

He also stressed the importance of regular patrols and ongoing collaboration with other security agencies, highlighting the need for prompt information sharing and quick responses to emergencies reported by the public.
