Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says his administration is intensifying efforts to improve road connectivity to major gas hubs with the near completion of the 33.5-kilometre Elele–Egbeda–Omoku road project.
Governor Fubara who made this known on Wednesday 18 March 2026 after inspecting the road project, which includes a bridge noted that about 90 percent of the work has been completed.
According to the Governor, discussions with the contractors indicate that the project will be delivered by April and the commissioning set for the first week of May 2026.
Governor Fubara expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, describing the road as one of the signature projects of his administration due to its economic importance.

“I feel very happy that this is not one of those projects that is just a project but it’s a signature project of my administration. It’s a corridor that connects three local government areas, Ikwerre, Emohua and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni and if you understand the importance of this road, it leads to the gas city which is omoku, so economically it is a viable road.”
Governor Fubara also noted that the project would enhance security along the corridor by improving access and enabling quicker response by security agencies to emergencies.
“For those of you who live in Port Harcourt, you will know that this particular road used to be a death trap, kidnap activities and other sorts of evil was done along this corridor.”
I think with what we have done here today, those stories will be old stories, it cannot be done again because security people can access here with ease and because there are no hitches on the way, life and properties will be safe.
The Governor who was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Barr. Sunny Ewule further appreciated the contractor for the quality of work done on the road project.
