Julius Berger Takes CSR to Classrooms, Communities in Rivers

Julius Berger Nigeria PLC is reinforcing its reputation not just as a construction giant, but as a socially responsible corporate citizen, with renewed community-focused initiatives across Rivers State.

In a recent outreach, the company sponsored the annual inter-house sports competition at Community Primary School, Ogbunabali in Port Harcourt. Beyond awarding trophies to top-performing houses, Julius Berger provided canopies and logistical support, ensuring a successful and memorable event for pupils.

Speaking at the event, Community Liaison Officer Hon. Chike encouraged students to embrace discipline and focus early in life, noting that the company remains committed to supporting their academic and physical development.

In a separate initiative, the company hosted senior secondary students from Bloombreed Schools at its regional office along the Eastern Bypass. The visit began with a safety induction led by Regional HSE/CSR Manager Tim Oseghe, followed by technical sessions designed to expose the students to career opportunities in engineering and related fields.

The students were also taken on a guided tour of the company’s facilities, where professionals demonstrated modern engineering processes and operations, offering practical insights into the industry.

Earlier in February, Julius Berger extended similar support to multiple schools through joint inter-house sports competitions. At one of the events, Gabriel Ubani of the State Universal Basic Education Board urged students to strike a balance between academics and sports, highlighting the benefits of all-around development.

At Model Primary School, Nkpogwu, also in Port Harcourt, company representatives emphasized the importance of nurturing both intellectual and physical growth, encouraging pupils to adopt healthy and positive lifestyles.

According to Oseghe, these initiatives reflect a deliberate strategy to invest in the next generation. He stressed that the company’s goal is to raise well-rounded individuals equipped to navigate life’s challenges.

Beyond educational and sporting interventions, Julius Berger’s CSR efforts in Rivers State and across Nigeria include donations to orphanages, vocational training programs for young girls, and community development projects aimed at empowering vulnerable groups.

Through these sustained efforts, the company continues to demonstrate that its impact goes beyond infrastructure, fostering human capital, inspiring young minds, and strengthening communities.
