IAUE Commends NELFUND for ₦990m Student Loan Payment

The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Port Harcourt Rivers State has commended Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND for what it described as its commitment to expanding access to higher education and supporting the development of Nigeria’s future workforce.

The commendation followed the release of ₦990,400,600 by NELFUND to cover tuition fees for 6,662 students of the university for the 2025/2026 academic session.

In a statement by the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Okechukwu Onuchukwu, the university said the funds represented the first batch of payments under the student loan programme.

The statement also acknowledged the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, in facilitating the intervention.

According to the university, the disbursement has provided significant relief to affected students and their families by reducing the financial burden associated with university education.

The institution said the intervention would enable many students to continue their academic pursuits without disruption.

It noted that the university had published confirmation of the payment in a newspaper as part of its transparency measures in managing the disbursement.

The institution further expressed readiness to continue working with NELFUND to ensure that Nigerian students benefit from opportunities created through the student loan programme.
