Douglas Fabeke Declares Interest in Rivers Governorship

The Leader of the Ogoni Liberation Initiative and the Liberation Movement for Good Governance, Dr Douglas Fabeke, has declared his intention to contest for the Rivers State governorship in the 2027 election.

Dr Fabeke, who previously contested the Rivers South-East Senatorial seat in the 2023 general election, made the announcement during the flag-off of “Operation Nehemiah” in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Speaking with our correspondent, on 11 March 2026, Fabeke said the initiative would serve as the vision platform for his governorship campaign and is designed to drive economic, spiritual and social transformation across the state.

He stated that many communities in Rivers State are currently facing difficult conditions due to what he described as the failure of government authorities to adequately identify and address the needs of the people.

According to him, the struggles of the Ogoni people over the past three decades require urgent attention from the government.

“It would require minimal effort from this government to grant the Ogoni people their demands after 30 years of pain, suffering and loss of lives. The political obstacles hindering the freedom of the people need to be revisited urgently,” he said.

Drawing inspiration from biblical figures such as Esther, Joseph and Nehemiah, Fabeke said leadership often requires individuals to rise to the occasion to defend and advance the interests of their people.

He expressed confidence that his leadership would usher in political transformation in Rivers State and position the state as a globally competitive destination.

Fabeke also disclosed that he has identified a political party that aligns with his ideology and announced that his first public political meeting will be held soon, where further details of his political agenda will be unveiled.

He also presented the 2026 budget of the Ogoni Community Empowerment Foundation, stating that the budget would focus on developing the proposed Global Entrepreneurship City in Ogoni and expanding community empowerment projects.

Fabeke added that his experience during the 2023 senatorial race, as well as research conducted after the general election, informed his decision to join the governorship contest.

He promised to deliver a comprehensive public address outlining his vision and strategic plans for Rivers State in the coming days.
