On Friday morning, suspected political thugs set fire to an African Democratic Congress (ADC) ward office in Ubima, the hometown of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, located in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Residents reported that the incident took place during the early hours of Friday, mere hours before Amaechi was scheduled to officially register with the party at the ward.
Sources claimed that the attackers were affiliated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Both Wike and Amaechi previously served as governors of the state.
According to community sources, the assailants arrived at the ADC ward office in Ubima and ignited the building, causing damage to party materials and other belongings inside the facility.

“Thugs loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike burnt down ADC ward office in Ubima, the hometown of Rotimi Amaechi, early Friday morning,” a resident said.
The assault is thought to be associated with increased political friction in the region in anticipation of Amaechi’s upcoming registration with the African Democratic Congress. At the time of this report, there were no reported injuries.
Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, originates from Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area and continues to be an influential political figure in the state.
Attempts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, were unsuccessful.
