The chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mr Aminu Maida, says that making broadband available and including everyone in the world and making sure everyone can access it are key to Nigeria’s digital future.
He made this statement at the Enugu Tech Festival 2026, that the internet is like the backbone of Nigeria’s growing digital economy. He also said that we need to build peoples skills come up with ideas and make sure everyone benefits from digital growth.
While giving a speech Maida said that chances are not very useful if we don’t put in effort to build peoples skills.
Maida also talked about his experience, telling the people who are into technology to trust themselves, have a clear goal and grab the chances that are being given by the government and private companies. He said that being prepared will decide who does well in the future where everything is digitalized.
The governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Peter Mbah said that people and their skills, not resources are now the most valuable things in the world. He also said that what stops society today is not having ideas, but not being brave enough to do something.

The governor also challenged people who’re into technology to find solutions to problems and make sure that the solutions benefit the local community. He said that people moving to other places for jobs ideas should be exported.
He talked about Enugu’s plans to develop, and some of the plans include Smart Green Schools, teaching AI and robotics digital platforms for governance and expanded infrastructure. These are like pillars for a growing economy based on knowledge.
Kashifu Inuwa, who is in charge of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) said that Nigeria must start creating technology and not just use it.
He said that the global digital economy could be worth $23 trillion soon.
The global digital economy is growing fast. Some projections say it could be worth up to $28 trillion by 2026.
This growth is because of improvements in AI data analysis and more spending, on technology. It could be 22-24 percent of the worlds GDP soon according to a bank.
NITDA gave 50 laptops to people who won its Digital Skills Acceleration Competition. The program is designed to teach people skills that are in high demand. Some of these skills include cybersecurity, AI, data science, programming, IoT, digital literacy and soft skills.
