The Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Allwell Ihunda, on Tuesday hosted over 600 Muslim faithful as part of activities marking the 2026 Ramadan season.
At the outreach held on February 24, the mayor distributed bags of rice and cash gifts to beneficiaries, describing the gesture as part of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and religious harmony.
Ramadan, a sacred period of fasting, prayer and charity for Muslims, provided the backdrop for the intervention, which stakeholders said reflects deliberate efforts to promote unity in the cosmopolitan city.
Speaking at the event, leader of the Renewed Hope Muslim Faithfuls in Rivers State, Aribitonye Okiri, urged adherents to uphold the values of obedience, discipline and compassion throughout the holy month. He commended the mayor for what he described as a timely and impactful gesture.

He assured the local government of the Muslim community’s continued prayers and support for peace and development.
Responding, Ihunda applauded the Muslim community for its peaceful conduct and emphasized that religious tolerance remains essential for sustainable development. He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining a safe and business-friendly environment for all residents.
