Chelle Tables 19 Demands as Contract Tension Brews With NFF
Fresh tension is reportedly building between Eric Chelle and the Nigeria Football Federation following the submission of a 19-point proposal outlining conditions for a contract extension.
According to reports, the document was formally presented to the NFF on January 22, 2026, with details surfacing publicly this week. At the centre of the proposal is a significant salary review. Chelle is seeking an increase in his monthly pay from $50,000 to $130,000. The current structure reportedly covers both his salary and that of his assistants. Under the new arrangement, the proposed $130,000 package would still cover his technical crew and personal assistant.

Beyond financial terms, Chelle is demanding full technical autonomy. He wants written guarantees of non-interference in player invitations and team selection, an issue that has historically generated debate within Nigerian football circles. He is also requesting the authority to choose friendly matches based on preferred opponents and to independently structure camping programmes.
On welfare and logistics, the coach is asking for improved working conditions. These include a private SUV with chauffeur and security, accommodation in a well-secured area with uninterrupted electricity, and a furnished office equipped with match analysis tools such as a projector, stable internet access and GPS facilities.
Family travel arrangements are also part of the proposal. Chelle is requesting flight tickets for his wife and two children, with business class tickets for himself and his wife, and economy class for the children.
From a technical development standpoint, the coach is proposing structured youth development initiatives and regular opportunities to travel abroad to monitor Nigerian players. He also wants provisions that would enable him to attend domestic league matches to scout talents not only for the senior national team but also for the U-23, U-20 and U-17 sides.
The proposal sets the stage for what could become a decisive negotiation between the Super Eagles technical bench and the football federation. Whether the NFF agrees to the revised terms or opts for a different direction may significantly shape the future of the national team.
