INEC Holds Final Stakeholder Briefing, Vows Credible Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has held the final briefing on its preparedness for the upcoming Bye-election in Ahoada East Constituency II and Khana II Constituency.

A statement released indicated that the meeting had in attendance members of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Rivers State, Candidates for the Bye-Election from the various political parties, as well as State and Local Government Chairmen of the participating political parties.

According to the statement, the meeting, which took place atthe INEC office along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, also had representatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), State Security Services (SSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in attendance.

Speaking at the meeting, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State, Professor Gabriel O. Yomere, informed all the stakeholders invited for the meeting of the readiness and preparedness of INEC to conduct a free, fair, and credible election for the two State Constituencies for the Bye-Election.

According to him, “The main purpose for this meeting is to give you a final briefing on how prepared we are as a commission in ensuring that the Bye-Election billed for Saturday, February 21, 2026, in Khana ll, and Ahoada ll State Constituencies is without any hitch.”

“The Bye-Election will be conducted in strict compliance with the amended Electoral Law that has just been signed into law by Mr President.”

Professor Yomere expressed confidence in the capacity of the Security Agencies to provide adequate security for the electorate and the staff of INEC for the smooth conduct of the Bye-Election.

He thanked members of IPAC in Rivers State, the media, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and the various political parties in Rivers State for their cooperation thus far since he assumed office as the REC of INEC in Rivers State.

In her remarks, the candidate of the APC for Khana II State Constituency, Mrs Bulabari Henrietta Loolo, expressed confidence in INEC under Prof. Gabriel O. Yomere to be able to deliver on the mandate of INEC.

She appreciated and commended the leadership of the APC in Khana LGA, with the support of the State Working Committee of the APC under the Chairmanship of Hon. Chief Tony C. Okocha for being gender-friendly.
