WAEC Launches Digital Certificate Platform Across Five West African Countries

The West African Examinations Council has introduced a new Digital Certificate Services System, known as WAEC DigiCert, in its five member nations — Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Head of Public Affairs at the council’s headquarters in Accra, Ghana, Demianus Ojijeogu, on behalf of the Registrar.

According to WAEC, the DigiCert platform is accessible through mobile phones and the web, allowing users to view, request, verify and share digital copies of their certificates. The system also enables candidates to retrieve lost examination numbers.

The council assured users of the platform’s credibility, stating that the digital certificates are secure and authentic, while also offering cost and time-saving benefits.

WAEC noted that the initiative was first tested in Nigeria, where it received favourable responses from candidates and institutions both locally and internationally.

Stakeholders were encouraged to embrace the digital platform to reduce delays and other challenges linked to manual certificate processing. However, the council clarified that the traditional printing and issuance of physical certificates will continue as usual.

The DigiCert mobile app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play Store for iOS and Android users. More details can be obtained from the council’s official website and social media pages.

In a related update, WAEC announced the release of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination results for private candidates. Candidates are advised to check their results online before proceeding to access their digital certificates through the DigiCert platform.
