Stop Hookup! – Police Tells Rivers Ladies

As Valentine’s Day approaches, a strong warning has been issued to young women in Rivers State following a disturbing account shared online by the spokesperson of the , SP Grace Iringe-Koko.

In a video circulating on Facebook, the police spokesperson cautioned young girls against engaging in hook-ups and transactional sexual relationships, especially during the Valentine season when emotions are high and financial temptations can cloud judgment.

The warning came alongside the chilling testimony of a 22-year-old woman who recounted how what seemed like a normal meet-up turned into a nightmare.

According to her narration, she was allegedly lured to a hotel by a man she had been in contact with. Upon arrival, the situation quickly changed. She said she was overpowered, tied up, and stripped of her phone. Shockingly, she later discovered she was not the only victim — two other young women were reportedly being held in the same location.

The alleged suspect’s plan, she claimed, was not just robbery. Their phones were to be accessed, bank applications opened, and money transferred out of their accounts. Even more disturbing were fears that the victims might have been targeted for organ harvesting.

Their rescue, according to her account, came through a moment of courage and quick thinking. One of the girls, while being forced to log into her phone, reportedly managed to reach out discreetly to two friends. The friends quickly raised the alarm and contacted the police, who arrived at the scene before further harm could be done.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks that can come with meeting strangers, particularly in secluded places like hotels. Authorities are urging young women to be vigilant and avoid situations that could expose them to danger.

Valentine’s Day, often associated with love, gifts, and celebration, has increasingly become a peak period for online meet-ups and transactional relationships. Hotels, lounges, and short-let apartments experience high patronage. While many people celebrate safely, law enforcement officials stress that criminals also exploit this season.

The core message from the police is clear: no amount of money, gifts, or promises is worth risking one’s safety. Young girls are advised to avoid hook-ups, be cautious of strangers who offer financial benefits in exchange for companionship, and to inform trusted friends or family of their whereabouts at all times.

Parents and guardians are also encouraged to speak openly with their daughters about the dangers associated with risky meet-ups and the growing threat of financial exploitation and organized crime.

As love fills the air this February, authorities are reminding everyone that safety must come first. Valentine’s Day should be about genuine affection and meaningful connections — not desperation, deception, and danger.
