The Igwuruta Community Youth have expressed grief and outrage over the killing of Nchelem Samuel Festus, Secretary of the Omuolu-Omunwei Community in Igwuruta, who was reportedly murdered on February 10, 2026.
In a communiqué issued on February 12, 2026, the youth group alleged that the attack was carried out by commercial motorcycle riders described as “Aboki bike riders” operating within the area.
The group also raised concerns over what it described as increasing cases of rape, kidnapping, and other criminal activities allegedly linked to some individuals operating in the community.
The youth stated that Igwuruta has historically been known as a peaceful and welcoming community where residents and visitors conduct their activities without fear. However, they said recent incidents of violence and insecurity have heightened anxiety among residents and called for urgent intervention by security agencies.
Among their demands, the youth called for the immediate suspension of commercial motorcycle operations in Igwuruta allegedly linked to the perpetrators, closure of scrap-dump sites said to be operated by some of the individuals, and the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing of Festus and other alleged crimes.
They also appealed for measures to prevent cattle grazing on farmlands, urging herders to keep away from farms and surrounding bushes to avoid further tension.
While reaffirming their commitment to peace and the rule of law, the group urged security agencies, local government authorities, and other stakeholders to act swiftly to restore safety and confidence in the community.
