The Collusion Of NASS To Undermine Nigeria’s Democracy

The 2023 Presidential election was plagued by irregularities, not primarily from ballot theft but rather from criminally executed acts of “taking it and fleeing with it.”

This mainly involved altering outcomes from the voting stage to the aggregation, and this was executed with blatant neglect for the people’s wishes.

The initial phase of this criminal act involved collusion with INEC, the intended referee of the electoral competition, and when the victims, the PDP and the Labour Party, protested about the tainted election, INEC quickly directed them to court. Ultimately, the Judiciary had already been compromised and was bound to be an accessory in the criminal act.

In all of these situations, the individuals remained silent. Unfortunately, the silence has merely strengthened and empowered these criminal factions to continue their wrongdoing, now with the incorporation of state institutions.

Consequently, governors from the opposition began to switch to the ruling party, claiming discord within their parties, a discord similarly engineered by the Presidency, led by figures such as Wike and Ortom in the PDP and Apampa in the Labour Party.

Nonetheless, despite the alleged strategic stance, politically, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government has been exceedingly disappointing in its fundamental duty, which is governance. Consequently, an ongoing disillusionment among the population.

Due to the steep cost of living, inadequate infrastructure, and persistent insecurity, Nigerians have been voicing their complaints and ongoing dissatisfaction with the government.

Thus, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite his attempts to convey a different impression, is anything but assured. He is aware, and I am certain that those who care for him and feel secure enough to speak honestly would have indicated to him that he was destined to lose in a free and fair election. And this is irredeemable except for….

Therefore, he has to cheat. Rig, no matter what.

The sole barrier currently is the Electoral Act, which is under amendment at the National Assembly. The crucial part was the authorisation of real-time electronic transmission of results.

The amendment should not pass easily. In no situation whatsoever.

Regrettably, the 10th Legislature was tainted from the beginning, with the Senate President consistently prepared to engage in underhanded tactics. There’s no issue with being more unclean when you are decayed, entirely, and your sole refuge is the unearned status you currently possess.

Thus, contrary to public and widespread expectations, the Senate, via its leaders, has stated ‘NO’ to the real-time electronic transmission of results.

We repeatedly express “NO, NO and NO” to this highly reckless legislation that fails to protect the integrity of our electoral decisions and does not ensure that our votes matter.

A group within the Senate, including Abaribe, Uduaghan, Kingibe, and several others, has publicly rejected what the Senate asserts is a unanimous decision. They suggest that what was settled in the plenary session is completely distinct from the claimed stance of the Senate.

This indicates another instance of forgery. The Tax Act was allegedly fabricated; it is now the Electoral Act. It seems we are restricted to a world of fakes, from qualifications to the elements that shape our everyday experiences. Due to our lack of resistance, it is becoming accepted.
We firmly declare a strong “NO.” Now is the moment to demand accountability from our lawmakers. Should this malevolence flourish, we could all be engulfed.
