Police Launch Investigation into Murder of Omoku Youth Leader

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the murder of Ifeanyi Azuazu, the President of the Omoku Youth Federation (OYF), along with his civilian security aide, Chigozie Oluwu, aiming to capture those responsible.

Gunmen believed to be cultists opened fire on Thursday night at a well-known drinking spot in Omoku, killing Olowu and abducting Azuazu, who was elected as OYF President approximately two months ago.

Azuazu’s headless corpse was discovered and identified the next day, Friday, by members of the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) in a nearby forest within the community.

In an interview with reporters, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, indicated that initial investigations revealed the murders were associated with cult activities.

Reports stated that Oluwu was fatally shot while trying to help when the gunmen, approximately seven in number and arriving in two vehicles, aimed their weapons at the OYF President and forced him into one of the cars.

Confirming the discovery of Azuazu’s decapitated body, OSPAC spokesperson, Godnews Nkem, stated that the remains were found in a forest in Omoku on Friday afternoon, many hours after he was kidnapped.
