A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has fixed March 28 and 29, 2026, for its National Convention to elect new national executives of the party. The convention is scheduled to be held in Abuja.
The decision was announced in a communiqué issued at the end of the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday, February 2, 2026, in Abuja.
According to the communiqué, NEC unanimously reconfirmed and ratified all resolutions reached at the party’s 104th emergency NEC meeting held on December 7, 2025, stressing that all actions taken remain valid, lawful, and binding in line with the PDP Constitution, the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act, and relevant judicial pronouncements.
NEC reaffirmed its confidence in the independence of the judiciary and welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership and administrative arrangements. The committee also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant institutions to comply fully with the judgment.
The NEC further reiterated the legitimacy and authority of the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, with Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu as Secretary, describing it as the only lawful national administrative organ of the party pending the conduct of the National Convention.

As part of preparations for a smooth transition to an elected leadership, NEC approved a timetable for party congresses nationwide, with ward and local government congresses scheduled for February, while state congresses will be held in March. The National Caretaker Committee was directed to issue detailed guidelines and modalities for the congresses in compliance with party rules, INEC regulations, and court directives.
NEC also approved March 28 and 29, 2026, for the PDP National Convention in Abuja to elect members of the National Working Committee and other statutory organs of the party. The tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, as well as affected state and zonal caretaker committees, was extended pending the conduct of the convention and congresses.
The committee mandated the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate convention sub-committees and commence full logistical, administrative, and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention.
NEC called on party members at all levels to remain united, disciplined, and loyal, and to avoid actions capable of undermining party cohesion. It reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to rebuilding a strong, democratic, and electorally competitive party.
The communiqué was signed by Hon. Abdulrahman Muhammed, National Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary.
