The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State has decided to decentralise the current Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) initiative to the Registration Area (RA) and Ward levels throughout the state.

This decision was communicated in a press release dated January 30, 2026, which was signed by Geraldine Ekelemu, who serves as the Head of Voter Education and Publicity for the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC Rivers State.

This initiative intends to make voter registration more accessible to eligible voters and to enhance participation in the electoral process, especially at the community level.

INEC has announced that the ward-level CVR exercise is set to begin on Monday, February 2, 2026, and will be conducted over 50 days in a rotating manner across the 319 wards in Rivers State.
