Rivers Women Hand Over State to God, Reject Distractions to Governance

Women under the aegis of Rivers Women Unite for SIM have handed over the affairs of Rivers State to God and called on citizens to reject all forms of distractions capable of undermining governance in the state.

The women also condemned what they described as peace of the graveyard, urging residents to embrace genuine coexistence as a pathway to progress and development.

They made the call on Thursday, January 15, 2026, during their annual prayer gathering held at the Ecumenical Centre, Port Harcourt, to usher in the new year. The group urged the people of Rivers State to combine faith in divine intervention with tireless efforts toward peace, unity and harmony, affirming that God remains in control of the affairs of the state.

Addressing the gathering, the Convener of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Toby Fulton, charged the women to walk in faith and love, stressing that unity remains the key to achieving great accomplishments. She encouraged them to remain steadfast in prayer and committed to the peace and progress of Rivers State.

The women engaged in sessions of praise and thanksgiving, expressing gratitude to God for His faithfulness despite the challenges faced over the years. They offered prayers for continued protection, guidance and abundant mercies upon Rivers State and Nigeria.

The prayer service focused on peace, prosperity and good governance, as the women declared divine order over the land, its leaders and its people. They reaffirmed their confidence in God’s supreme authority, noting that regardless of prevailing circumstances, God continues to guide His people and perfect all that concerns them.

The group also restated its unwavering support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, committing his leadership and administration to God’s wisdom and direction.

The service ended on a joyful note as January-born celebrants were honoured with birthday songs and prayers for long life, good health and divine favour.
