President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian artistes for their outstanding performance at the 9th All Africa Music Awards, held in Lagos State from January 7 to 11, 2026.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the success of Nigerian music stars as a proud moment for the nation and a clear demonstration of the growing influence of the country’s creative industry across Africa and the world.
The event brought together more than 1,200 artistes, delegates, and industry stakeholders from nearly 50 African countries. Nigerian artistes dominated the awards, with Rema winning Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African RnB & Soul.
Burna Boy took home Album of the Year, while Shallipopi won Song of the Year and Best African Collaboration. Phyno was awarded Best African Hip-Hop, Qing Madi received Most Promising Artiste, Yemi Alade won Best Soundtrack, Chella claimed African Fans’ Favourite, and Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye were honoured with the AFRIMA Legendary Award.

President Tinubu praised the artistes not only for their awards but also for projecting Nigeria’s culture and amplifying the voice of Africa’s youth through their music. He said their achievements strengthen Nigeria’s creative identity across the continent and beyond, and he encouraged them to continue using their talents to inspire hope, unity, and national pride. The President also highlighted the role of the creative industry in job creation, tourism, and economic growth, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower Nigerian talents.
He commended Lagos State for hosting a world-class event and praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Government for providing a safe and vibrant environment for artistes, industry professionals, and visitors from across Africa. The President emphasized that Lagos continues to establish itself as Africa’s creative and entertainment capital through the successful hosting of events like AFRIMA.
