The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved decisively to steady its troubled Rivers State chapter, appointing Chief Ogbam Ojimah as Chairman of a new Caretaker Committee amid lingering factional battles and recent suspensions.
The Party dissolved the existing executive structures in Rivers State and four other states appointing fresh caretaker committees to steer the party’s affairs amid preparations for future elections.
In a major shake-up announced by the National Working Committee (NWC) on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Rivers State now has Chief Ogbam Ojimah as Chairman of its Caretaker Committee, with Dr. Field Baribeful Nkor serving as Secretary.
In a Statement by the National Organizing Secretary Theophilus Dakas Shan, the move affects Delta, Enugu, Imo and Osun States is said to be in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended) which empowering the NWC to act on behalf of the National Executive Committee.
For Rivers, the nine-member committee includes Richard Enyia Victor, Grace Boma Harry, Princess Isioma Stella Elenwa, Arc. Eldred Owupele-Orubo, Austin Emeka Wali, Mr. Ada Udong, and Mr. Edward Nubari David as members.

The committees are tasked with managing party operations in their states for a maximum of 90 days or until new executives are elected, as provided under Section 21(2)(a-b) of the party’s constitution.
According to the statement, Members of the party must strictly adhere to the PDP Constitution (2025 amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended).
The Rivers appointment comes against the backdrop of recent internal turbulence in the state chapter, including the suspension of a previous caretaker chairman over alleged anti-party activities and alignments that divided loyalties.
The NWC’s intervention aims to restore unity, strengthen grassroots structures, and reposition the PDP in oil-rich Rivers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Similar caretaker setups were named for the other states: Prof. Sylvester Monye (Chairman) and Dr. Michael Tidi (Secretary) for Delta; Barr. Steve Oruruo (Chairman) and Martin Ugwuamadieze (Secretary) for Enugu; Chief John Jude Okere (Chairman) and Mr. Magnus Amadi (Secretary) for Imo; and Hon. Tunde Tijani (Chairman) and Hon. Bamidele Seyi-Abiola (Secretary) for Osun.
