Impeachment Move Against Fubara Sparks Rivers Tension

Stakeholders have continued to call on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the impeachment urgently moves against the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu.

Former Caretaker Committee (CTC) Chairman for Asari Toru Local Government Area, Ambassador Sobomabo Jachrich, who made the call while reacting to the development in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, noted that the impeachment move will cause political instability in the state.

Ambassador Jackrich, who is also the National leader of a Socio-political pressure group, Rivers Grassroots Movement, RGM, condemned the impeachment proceedings initiated by the Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly.

“This reckless action represents a blatant assault on democratic principles and the will of the Rivers people. We view these proceedings as a deliberate ploy to regress Rivers State among the comity of states in Nigeria.”

The Former Asari Toru CTC Chairman alleged that the action was instigated by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and urged President Tinubu to call the minister to order in the interest of peace, warning that Wike’s political maneuvers, including his so-called “Rainbow Coalition,” threaten to destabilize both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Rivers State governance.

“We know the FCT Minister’s political history. He follows a predictable pattern: he is a political canker worm who thrives in chaos, intent on dismantling the foundational structures of our democracy, including political party systems that provide order to our Democratic system.” He added.

According to him, the impeachment attempt is a deliberate effort to destabilise the state and derail governance, noting that the allegations against the governor and his deputy are unfounded.

The Socio-political pressure group leader commended Governor Fubara for remaining focused on governance despite the political distractions.

The group reaffirmed its support for Governor Fubara, his deputy, and maintained that Rivers State deserves peace, stability, and continued development.
