The Rivers State Ministry of Health has commenced the second phase of interviews for the National Health Fellows Programme (NHFP 2.0), an initiative of the Federal Government aimed at strengthening primary healthcare delivery across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. The programme is a key component of the Federal Government’s health reform agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking during the interview session at the Ministry of Health in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, expressed optimism about the continuity of the programme and its impact on community health.
Dr. Oreh, while reflecting on the success of the inaugural cohort, said the first set of fellows in Rivers State demonstrated remarkable commitment and dedication to service.

According to her, the fellows served as a vital bridge between the formal health system and local communities by working closely with local government authorities, primary healthcare management boards and the state ministry to drive transformational change in the health sector.
“Transformation cannot happen without our communities being fully engaged. The Health Fellows represent a crop of young people serving as a bridge between our health system and our communities, actively engaged and driving positive change.”
She noted that several fellows from the first cohort initiated innovative projects aimed at improving population health outcomes and strengthening healthcare service delivery at the grassroots.
The Commissioner said the Ministry is excited about engaging a new crop of fellows under NHFP 2.0 and expressed confidence that the new cohort would be even more dynamic, passionate and committed to community health service delivery.
Dr. Oreh urged the interview panel to ensure a transparent, fair and merit-based selection process, focusing on candidates with the passion, energy and understanding required to drive ongoing health sector reforms in Rivers State and Nigeria.
She congratulated prospective successful candidates in advance and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that improve healthcare delivery at the community level.
