The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has condemned the unsportsmanlike behavior displayed by team players and officials following the aftermath incidents that marred the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal matches between Nigeria and Algeria and Morocco and Cameroon, tagged it “inappropriate behaviour.”
CAF released a statement on Monday, saying—they have referred the incidents from both matches to its disciplinary board after gathering match reports and video evidence. The body also noted that an investigation has commenced to punish erring individuals.
It is however claimed that the African apex football body (CAF) has collected recent match reports and video evidence indicating potentially unacceptable behaviour from some players and officials and has opened an investigation into match incidents during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 quarter-final fixtures between Cameroon and Morocco, as well as Algeria and Nigeria,” the statement said.

Of course the footage gathered from the match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Desert warriors of Algeria showed several players from both sides clashing on the pitch following the Super Eagles’ victory on Tuesday.
It is said that the clash didn’t stop at the pitch, but the incident continued into the tunnel, where members of the Algerian team were captured confronting match officials.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) added that it is also reviewing an incident in the MIXED ZONE following a massive brawl that allegedly broke out between Moroccan and Algerian reporters. The mixed zone is an area where journalists interview players after matches.
By this notice, “Confederation of African Football (CAF) added that they’re also reviewing footage of an incident involving members of the media who allegedly misbehaved in the mixed zone area.”
The statement concluded that —”CAF strongly kicked against the inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organisers. And it was clearly stated that appropriate actions will be sought against anyone whose behaviour is not consistent with professional conduct at CAF events.”
