Bonny LGA Dismisses ₦100m Monthly Payment Allegation to Rivers Assembly Leaders

The Bonny Local Government Council in Rivers State has denied claims that it pays the sum of ₦100 million monthly from its coffers to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, and the Leader of the House, Alabo Major Jack.

In a press statement on Sunday, January 11, 2026, the council described the allegation, attributed to one Prince Kalada Allison, as “false, misleading, and entirely unfounded.”

The statement, signed by Amb. Wisdom Chapp-Jumbo, Chief Press Secretary to the council, emphasized that no such payments have ever been made, nor does any formal or informal agreement exist to support the claim.

“For the avoidance of doubt and in the interest of public clarity, the Bonny Local Government Council states categorically that no such payment has ever been made, nor does any agreement—formal or informal—exist to that effect,” the statement read.

The council accused Prince Kalada Allison of consistently peddling unverified claims and misinformation since the inauguration of the current administration led by Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, DSSRS.

It noted that these previous allegations have largely been ignored due to their lack of credibility and substance.

The statement further pointed out that the absence of any credible facts or verifiable evidence to back the latest claim confirms it as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and cause unnecessary distractions, allegedly in the service of undisclosed interests and paymasters.

Despite the controversy, the Bonny LGA administration reaffirmed its commitment to focused governance and service delivery. It highlighted that achievements recorded within the first 100 days in office remain visible, verifiable, and evident to residents of Bonny and beyond.

The council urged members of the public to disregard the allegation in its entirety and remain focused on the developmental agenda of the administration.

The denial comes amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where the House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has been involved in various disputes with the executive arm.

Bonny, a key oil-rich coastal local government area in the Niger Delta, continues to prioritize good governance under Chairman Pepple’s leadership.
