Rivers State Gears up for 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebrations

Rivers State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the welfare of military veterans, widows of fallen heroes, and serving officers, as preparations intensify for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, made this declaration on Thursday 8 January during the Central Planning Committee meeting for the event in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Anabraba who commended the committee for the successful launch of the Emblem Appeal Fund, urged members to redouble efforts to ensure the remaining activities achieve greater success.

He outlined the programme, which kicks off with Juma’at Prayers on Friday, January 9, at the Rivers State Central Mosque in Port Harcourt Township.

A special relaxation day for widows and veterans will be hosted by the Governor’s Wife, Lady Valerie Fubara.

“On Saturday, January 10, Her Excellency, Lady Valerie Siminalayi Fubara, will host a Humanitarian Outreach, Family and Community Day for widows and veterans,” Dr. Anabraba said.

“Sunday, January 11, will feature an Interdenominational Church Thanksgiving Service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt Township, while the grand finale — the Wreath-Laying Ceremony — will take place on Thursday, January 15, at the Isaac Boro Park Cenotaph, Port Harcourt.”

A key highlight will be the wreath-laying by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and heads of security agencies.

The annual event, marked nationwide on January 15, honours fallen heroes and celebrates serving and retired members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
